The album credits are very significant of why and how of it: [...] Andrew Wood, Who Lived with Chris , Work with Jeff , + played an occasional September with acoustic Stone. Green River broke up + Andrew joined Stone + Jeff . ... Mother love bone . Life was great. Soundgarden made records, toured, ¿pocked? hard, flourished. Mother love bone made records + and was on the verge of... And we all lost our beautiful friend, Andrew . The rest of us hung. Told stories. Helped each other, laughed, cried. Life was confusing. Chris wrote two amazing songs about Andy ( Say hello to heaven and Reach down , asked Stone + Jeff + Matt 2 record them. Yes. Life moves on. We jammed. Guitar wizard, master of animal sounds Mike came by. We did coffe. We huge carcass-less meals with cyclops and drank with septiem + the other Gods. Music flowed, we got excited, played a show, wrote more songs + peeled in a(n) 10 pounder. ...In a good way. 10 songs. Spontaneous. Creation. Emotion. Very pleasing. Real music. No analyzing. No pressure. No hype. Just music to make music. Frineds and a reason. Chemistry. Beauty. LIFE RULES!
En definitiva, Matt Cameron (batería de Soundgarden ) Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament (guitarist and bassist for Pearl Jam ) and Chris Cornell (Soundgarden voice ) went submerged in origins of the imminent explosion of Grunge and decided to make this tribute to Andrew Wood . Thus, between November and December 1990 together with a couple of ideas Cornell (who wrote the music for seven of the 10 songs and lyricist of them all) and gave shape and life to this great album that, despite having touches both Pearl Jam (Guitars) and Soundgarden (drums) has a personality marked by influences anything related to music that was made and continued to do in Seattle the early 90's. So, on this record are appreciated instruments, vocals and reminiscent bases classic rock, blues, folk and American. Music found on the roots and meaning to the listener that the pain it has caused is very much within their authors. But it is a hard sad Sadness is clearly depicted in "Say hello 2 heaven", "Hunger strike " or "Call me a dog " but there is a space for energy in "Pushing forward back " or "Your savior "
I knew about this recording but had only heard "Hunger strike "in a live Pearl Jam he bought James (remember, Jako ? This album" Live & Alive vol 2. "that you gave me) in which Vedder sang a cappella a couple of verses together with the public. I think a while later I heard a few other songs on a tape that was my cousin ... In short, showing off what it meant in those years for a teenager like me: a record of those rare and hard to take in an era without the Internet and all that that entails (P2P, eMule, MySpace etc.) It took me to have him full time, and buy it much longer original (a few months ago, in fact)
Highlights:
- The late Saviour Your .
- The exchange of riffs between Mike McCready and Stone Gossard in Reach Down the track extending up to 11 minutes. The short but
- letter direct "Wooden Jesus "
